Duncans

Replacing one of the original 1905 Duncans Buildings lost in the Christchurch earthquakes, this modern three-storey addition sits within a precinct rich with heritage. Clad in distinctive weathered steel, the building’s dual street frontages make strong architectural statements.

The St Asaph façade features a striking cantilever projecting 2.4 metres above the footpath, giving Duncans a sculptural quality and dynamic street presence. Along High Street, the more restrained façade echoes the proportions and window placement of the neighbouring heritage buildings. Designed by AE Architects, the building was recognised at the 2022 Canterbury Architecture Awards.

Inside, Duncans offers a high-end contemporary workplace with fully furnished private offices, shared amenities and a compact meeting space on the first floor. Natural light, a refined urban aesthetic and a creative energy set it apart from more traditional office environments.
