Designed by England Bros in 1906, the original Billens Building was known for its striking Heathcote terracotta and Oamaru stone façade, arched windows and an oriel window. Widely regarded as one of the central city’s most beautiful heritage-listed buildings, it survived the 2011 earthquakes before being tragically lost to arson in 2012.

In tribute to that history, Stockman Group worked with architect Andrew Evans to create a modern interpretation of the original design. The rebuilt façade features German-made Heathcote terracotta bricks and deep-set, randomly placed windows, all respectful references to its past.

Today, Billens combines ground-floor retail, hospitality and beauty services with two levels of private, fully furnished offices above. Shared kitchens, casual dining areas and three meeting rooms support a collaborative workplace environment, alongside practical essentials such as high-speed fibre internet, printing, and mail facilities.
